Local Poet Submissions

Septembers Remembered, back to the Old Bay

After Labor Day, everyone would disappear back to where they came from

I’d sit on the beach and reconcile with feeling alone

Wait for the snowy owl

Catch a movie uptown

Locals’ summer meant onset depression

I still don’t know really what was the lesson

So I’d count the months until summer came back around

and people would check in on Mondays in town

And leave by 11 on Sunday

I’m gunna leave this place someday…

I always keep my word

But like that snowy owl, I’m a seasonal kind of bird

And this season of my life features reflections of the old days by the bay

I think I’ve finally learned to get out of my own way.
